The Penn State Alumni AssociationWhat’s been happening: After receiving my baccalaureate degree in business administration (1977) and a short career in banking, I returned to PSU for my masters in public administration (1983). This not only improved my employment opportunities, but also allowed me to watch the football team finish number one in the nation from the home field student section. A stint working as a legislative aide in the PA Senate then followed. In 1986, I made a bid for a seat in the PA General Assembly. While very close, my candidacy failed. However, the upside of the campaign experience was meeting my future wife, Rev. Dr. Kari Turner. Within a year of "tying the knot," daughter Mardilyn was born in 1989. Now, years later and after attending community college, among Mardi's choices for a bachelor's degree is her father's alma mater. Meanwhile, for a period time I worked as an appointed municipal official managing community development, zoning, budget, cable television issues. The latter experience came in handy upon my employ with the franchise department of the cable company over the last 12 years. Kari and I reside in Levittown PA where she is senior pastor of the 800-member First Presbyterian Church. When I am not in church, at work, or working on my 1970s vintage muscle car, I follow the Nittany Lions sports teams and make periodic treks back to Happy Valley. |
